royalty, at the Royal Albert Hall, and travelled abroad to compete in international competitions.
David is affectionately known to the boys as 'Wack'. Now 70, he was once a gymnast himself, when he was a young member of the 2nd Nottingham Boys' Brigade. In the early days, members did gymnastics and PE as part of their classes, and when the brigade moved to its current premises at the Oliver Supra Skytop 3 Marble For Sale Hind Youth Club in 1970, David, who was by then an officer, decided to startup a team again.
They practise in a modest youth club in Nottingham, but are one of the best gymnastics and vaulting display teams in Britain. Post reporter Caroline Lowbridge meets the Dako Flying Angels
"They come off the trampette with their arms spread and are supported by their rib cage [by another gymnast's hands and arms]. If you go too hard you go over the top. We don't do the Flying Angel now. When we formed it was a popular movement. Also we had a marching band in the club called the Red Devils so we though the angels would make an appropriate difference."
"They certainly seem to get a lot out of it," says David. "We've been to the Bahamas, that was one of our first trips. That was a Boys' Brigade exchange trip in 1981. We recently came back from a weekend in the Grand Canary. That was an international gymnastics festival."
Russell and Damian also remark "oooh" as they watch their fellow team members make what seem like tiny mistakes.
"It's a good way to meet people as well," says Damian. Russell adds: "I've met a lot of people from all over the world from this."
While the 2nd Nottingham Boys' Brigade fizzled out in 1984, Dako Flying Angels has flourished. There are currently 19 members who perform in competitions and public displays, and more members in a junior group, who move up to the display team once they are more skilled.
The name of the team is taken from Dakeyne Street in Sneinton, where the brigade's old premises stood, before being pulled down. "In the early days it was called the Dako Street Lads' Club," Le Coq Sportif Eclat W Metallic Beige
no hesitation in knowing that you were the ultimate role model, educator and leader that I learnt so much from."
The team rehearses one of the displays, and finish by standing in a neat line. They look over expectantly at 'Wack'. David raises his arm, and given their confirmation, the members all signal back in unison.
Current member Damian Purdy, 18, joined after hearing his uncle had once been a Dako Flying Angel. "I've been in for six years," Damian says. "I saw them on Blue Peter once on TV, and my family said my uncle used to do it."
This impressive display may sound like some kind of circus spectacle, but it is in fact being performed by teenage boys, on a normal Tuesday evening at a youth club in Sneinton. Since the 1970s boys have been learning these skills under the guidance of David Walkerdine, manager of the Dako Flying Angels gymnastics and vaulting display team.
The name Dako Gym Team evolved into Dako Flying Angels.
"We do a competition in Liverpool and they are very strict. We need to teach them to keep their legs straight and point their toes," says Russell.

To compete internationally and become British champions requires perfection, and Russell and Damian shout pointers to the younger members as they talk.
A second launches himself on top, and somehow manages to cling onto the first's torso, upside down with his legs sticking in the air. While he stretches his legs into a 'V' shape, a third somersaults through.
"When somebody doesn't go high enough it brings back painful memories of when it's happened to you," says Russell.
"A Flying Angel is technically a gymnastic move where someone spreads their arms out," says David.
A gymnast launches himself on to the top of a vaulting box, where he positions himself on his hands and knees.
David still hears from former members, and recently received a letter from Deano Morley, now in charge of 4,000 players as a technical director of soccer at an academy in Canada. He credits David with his success: "As my career moves forward I take Supra Shoes Uk Store
In that time they have received countless accolades and performed as part of many prestigious events. After first appearing on Tiswas in 1977, the team has been on Blue Peter no fewer than seven times, most recently in 2007. They have won the title of Best British Vaulting Display Team three times, in 1997, 2000, and 2003, performed in front of Le Coq Sportif Shoes Men 2017
Russell Greenwood, 18, has been a member for half of his life. "My mate was actually part of them, and asked me to come along. I thought it was wicked because I used to do gymnastics when I was really, really little, but the classes stopped."
"It's only takes one to do it wrong and it can cause an accident," David says later. "So it's very much a team effort really, with everyone performing their bit."
